Wash at up to 30°C

The temperature on the actual wash label is the maximum, not a mandatory temperature.

Choose a suitable program and sort by color.

Wash at up to 40°C

A 40°C wash instruction allows washing at a maximum of 40°C.

Lower temperatures can usually be used if the garment becomes clean.

Mild wash cycle

A line under the eyes means less mechanical movement.

Do not overfill the drum and use a low spin cycle.

Very gentle cycle

Two stripes require a particularly gentle cycle, for example for fine wool.

Use the appropriate delicate cycle on your machine.

Hand wash only

The label calls for careful hand washing; this is not automatically the same as a machine cycle.

Do not rub, pull or twist.

Do not wash

The crossed-out washing symbol means that home washing is not permitted.

Check whether professional cleaning is permitted.

Bleken

Oxygen bleach only

The label in question allows oxygen bleach, no chlorine bleach.

Use a product that is suitable for the fabric and color.

Do not bleach

A crossed-out triangular symbol prohibits bleaching.

Use a bleach-free detergent.

Drogen

Dryer: low heat

One dot inside the official tumble dryer symbol indicates a gentler drying cycle.

Follow the label and remove the garment from the dryer in time.

Dryer: normal heat

Two dots allow for a normal drying treatment.

When in doubt, air drying is gentler on fine details.

Do not tumble dry

The crossed-out dryer symbol prohibits tumble drying.

Allow to air dry according to the rest of the label.

Line dry

The label indicates that natural hanging drying is suitable.

Protect dark or sensitive colors from bright sunlight.

Horizontal drying

The garment must lie flat to limit stretching.

Especially useful for knitwear; shape the garment beforehand.

Strijken

Iron low

One dot on the actual label means a low ironing temperature.

Use a pressing cloth on delicate fabrics and test an inconspicuous area first.

Iron on medium heat

Two dots indicate a medium-high maximum ironing temperature.

If possible, iron delicate shiny fabrics on the reverse side.

Hot iron

Three dots indicate a high maximum ironing temperature.

Also look at bedding and decorations: they can be much more sensitive.

Do not iron

An iron with a line through it means: do not iron.

Also avoid direct heat on adhesive, coating and decoration.

Professioneel reinigen

Professional dry cleaning

A letter in a circle is an indication to the professional cleaner about the permitted method.

P and F refer to different cleaning agents; leave this to the specialist.

Professional wet cleaning

A W in a circle refers to professional post-processing.

This is a specialist treatment, not permission to wash at home.

Do not dry clean

A crossed-out circle prohibits professional dry cleaning.

Check which other cleaning methods are permitted by the label.

Veelgestelde vragen

Can I wash a dress at 30°C if it contains viscose?

Only if the care label of that specific dress allows machine washing. Viscose may react differently in a blend, lining, or pleated dress than a simple viscose garment. If in doubt, choose our advice or a professional cleaner.

What do the dashes under a washing instruction mean?

One stripe requires a mild process with less mechanical stress. Two stripes require a very mild process. The temperature remains at the maximum stated on the label.

Are satin and silk the same?

No. Silk is a fiber; satin describes the weave and the glossy appearance. Satin can be made from silk or polyester, for example. The composition and the label determine the care.

What do I do with a dress with lace, sequins, or multiple layers?

Read the label of the entire garment, including the lining. Embellishments and construction may be more delicate than the outer fabric. If in doubt or in the event of stains, we recommend professional cleaning.
